Introduction:-
Pollen grains are in mobile. They require an external agent or force for reaching the stigma. Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from anther to stigma. It is indirect type as compared to direct pollination in gymnosperms.

It is of two types – self pollination and cross pollination .

Self transfer of pollen grains from enter to the stigma of same or genetically similar flower. It is possible only when enters and stigma mature simultaneously. The phenomenal is called homogamy. Self pollination is of two types autogamy and geitonogamy.

Autonomy means self formation which occurs between anther and stigma of the same flower.
Autogamy takes place in three circumstances.
Chasmogamous devices, cleistogamy, bud pollination.

Geitonogamy is the transfer of pollen grains from anthers of one flower to stigma under flower of same or genetically similar plant.

Self pollination maintenance purity of press and superiority of variety once developed.

Cross pollination transfer of pollen grains from the anthers of one flower to stigma of genetically dissimilar flower. Cross pollination is also called xenogamy. Both xenogamy and geitonogamy are included under allogamy. Cross pollination requires external agent.
