INTRODUCTION:

Physiological effects of abscisic acids:-
Bud dormancy:-
Abscisic acid acts as growth inhibitor and induced by dormancy in a variety of plants. For example the winter bud dormancy is induced by ABA accumulation in the duckwwed plant.
Inhibition of growth:-
ABA is a powerful growth inhibitor. It inhibits Gibberellins stimulated growth.
Seed development and germination :-
ABA accumulates
In embryo of developing seeds. It inhibits formation of germination enzymes in the embryo and it inhibits vivipary.
Abscission:-
Age its name beers historical witness Abscisic acid was originally isolated as hormone responsible for abscission.
Geotropism:-
There are sufficient evidences to support that Abscisic acid controls geotropic responses of roots. It is present in the corn root caps translocates basipetally and stimulates positive geotropic response by acting as inhibitor.
Stomatal closing:-
ABA causes closure of stomata. It inhibits potassium ions uptake by guard cells and promotes the leakage of malic acid.
It results reduction of osmotic active solutes so that guard cell become Flaccid and stromata get closed.
