INTRODUCTION:-
Sexually transmitted disease or veneral disease are reproductive tract infection which are transmitted from one human being to another through sexual intimacy, transfusion of blood and from infected mother to foetus.
A large number of person are infected by STDs , some 50 million by syphilis and 150 million with gonorrhea. Except for AIDS hepatitis B and genital herpes all other STDs are completely curable if detected and treated early.
However early symptoms are generally minor like itching, fluid discharge, slight pain, swelling in the genital regions. In female they are often a symptomatic and remain undetected for long.
Further, due to social stigma attached to STDs , the infected persons do not go in for timely detection and medical treatment.
It results in pelvic inflammatory disease, abortion, still birth , ectopic pregnancy , infertility and cancer of reproductive tract.
Therefore, in reproductive health Care programs prevention early detection and treatment of STDs are given primary consideration.
The incidence of STDs is specially bhai in age group of 15 to 24 years. It can be prevented through use of condoms avoiding sex with multiple partners and unknown partner. For any doubt a qualify doctor should be consulted for proper diagnosis and treatment of STDs.
