Introduction:-
Endosperm is a nutritive tissue formed from vegetative fertilization in angiosperms. Endosperm is meant for nurshing the embryo. It is generally triploid. Since endosperm develops fully in the fertilized ovule, it may show the effect of genes present in the male gamete. The phenomenon is called Xenia.

Endosperm formation is accompanied by degeneration of nucellus. Some food is also got from the plant as well as endothelium. Depending upon its mode of development endosperm is of three types, nuclear endosperm, cellular endosperm, helobial endosperm.

During its growth endosperm crushes the nucellus. It is inturn eaten by growing embryo. Endosperm a persist in seed as a food ladent tissue. Such seed is called endospermic or albuminous seed ,e.g. castor , coconut, cereals, in others the embryo consume endosperm.

The food is then stored in cotyledon .Such seeds are called non – endospermic seed or exalbuminous seed.e.g. pea ,bean , sunflower etc.
