What is the difference between microspore and megaspore

You all are familiar with this two words microspore and megaspore, these two are unique reproductive structure found in in vascular plants like some pteridophytes and all gymnosperm and angiosperm. Sporophytic phase of vascular plant form two types of spore known as microspore and megaspore. Microspore is smaller sized representing male gametophyte develop in microsporangium by the process of microsporogenesis whereas megaspore large sized representing female gametophyte develop in megasporangium by the process of megasporogenesis.

Life cycle of vascular plant such as fern representing alternation of generation haploid gametophytic phase and diploid sporophyte phase. In gametophytic phase of vascular plant diploid sporangium divide meiotically to form haploid spore, these spore developed into prothallus which have developed two types of reproductive organ male reproductive organ known as antheridium and female reproductive organ known as archegonium they produce mitotically microspore and megaspore respectively, they unit to fuse to form diploid zygote, and diploid zygote develop to form diploid sporophytic phase of vascular plant.

What is the microspore and megaspore?

In biology, microspore is a small sized male spore produce inside microsporangium, developed in microsporophll, produce in large number and liberated out from sporophytic plants and generally microspore on germination gives male gametophyte whereas megaspore is large sized female spore produce inside megasporangium which is developed in megasporophll, producing in few number and do not liberated out from sporophytic plants and generally it is on germination give rise to female gametophyte.

What is the difference between microspore and megaspore?

This question is very important for class 12 students who are preparing for CBSE board/ state board and other competitive medical, neet examinations.

Key difference between microspore and megaspore is that microspore is small size male spore that give rise to male gametophyte develop in reproductive structure of microsporangium and it produces sperms in gymnosperm and develop into pollen grains in angiosperm whereas megaspore is large size female spore that representing female gametophyte, develop in reproductive structure of megasporangium and it produces archegonium in gymnosperm and develop into embryo sac in angiosperm

Microspore verses megaspore

List 3 difference/ how do you compare/ megaspore versus microspore / distinguish/ differentiate between microspore and megaspore/ microspore differ from megaspore are the following ways:-

1) microspore is small sized male spore which generally represent male gametophyte on other hand megaspore is female spore which give rise to female gametophyte

2) microspore is comparatively smaller than megaspore while megaspore is comparatively larger than microspore

3) microspore develop in Male reproductive organ known as microsporangium while megaspore develop in female reproductive organ known as megasporangium

4) microspore in angiosperm develop into pollen grains while megaspore in angiosperms develop into embryo sac

5) in gymnosperm microspore produce a sperms while megaspore produces archegonium
