What is the difference between primary follicle and secondary follicle?

What is the difference between primary follicle and secondary follicle?

Follicular development in female ovary is one of the important biological process leads to formation of mature haploid ovum from germinal epithelium of ovary commonly known as primordial cell. Follicular development start during the embryonic or 6 to 8 months of gestation period of female and at birth time it will be arrested and then begin at puberty after attending the sexual maturity of 12 years age in girls child

There are several follicles formed during the follicular development’s are primary follicles containing primary oocytes, secondary follicles that contain primary oocytes and tertiary follicles that containing secondary oocyte. After this tertiary follicles develop into Graafian follicles and release secondary oocytes for fertilization with sperm.

All these follicles have some difference in development and structure, but in this topic we explain some maijor difference between primary follicles and secondary follicles.

What is the primary follicle and secondary follicle?

What is primary follicle?, primary follicle is the second stage of follicular development developed from primordial follicles that’s containing primary oocyte surrounded by single layer of follicular epithelium known as granulosa cells.

What is secondary oocyte?, secondary oocyte is the third stage of follicular development formed from primary follicle, larger than primary follicle that containing primary oocytes surrounded by many layers of granulosa cells known as membrana granulosa and that surrounded by theca cell.

What is the difference between primary follicles and secondary follicles?

This questions is very important for class 12th Biology students who are preparing for their annual Board, CBSE/ states board and competitive, Neet, medical examinations.

Key difference between primary follicles and secondary follicle is that primary follicle is an immatured ovarian follicles developed from one ogonium of nest cells containing primary oocytes that surrounded by single layer of nutritious cuboidal cells known as follicular epithelium or granulosa cell whereas secondary follicles develop from primary follicle, is being larger, more follicular cells, small accumulation of fluid in intracellular space and that are surrounded by many of layer of granulosa cells known as membrane granulosa that surrounded by theca cells.

How does primary follicles differ from secondary follicles?

Primary follicles differ from secondary follicles in following points:- 1) primary follicles developed during the embryonic period of girls child and it is arrested at prophase of meiosis -1 whereas secondary follicles start to developed at puberty, 2) primary follicle are smaller than comparison to secondary follicles, 3) primary follicles developed from single oogonium whereas secondary follicles developed from primary follicles, and 4) single layer of nutritive cuboidal granulosa cells that surrounding the primary oocytes forms the primary follicles whereas many layers of theca cells and membrana granulosa celles that surrounding the primary oocytes forms the secondary follicles.

Primary follicles vs secondary follicles

How do you compare/ List five differences/ comparison/ distinguish / versus/ between primary follicles and secondary follicles are following:-

1) Primary follicles developed from oogonium whereas secondary follicles developed from primary follicles

2) Single layer of nutritive cuboidal granulosa cells that surrounding the primary oocytes forms the primary follicles whereas many layers of theca cells and membrana granulosa celles that surrounding the primary oocytes forms the secondary follicles.

3) Primary follicle are smaller than comparison to secondary follicles

4) development of primary follicle begin to start at embryonic stage or gestation period of 6th to 8th month pregnancy whreas development of secondary follicles begins at puberty of girl child

5) in primary follicles there is no presence or accumulation of fluid in intracellular space whereas in secondary follicles there is a small accumulation of fluid in intracellular space called follicular fluid.

6) in primary follicles primary oocyte surrounded by a single layer of granulosa cells whereas in secondary follicles primary oocyte surrounded by many layers of granulosa cells known as membrana granulosa and that surrounded by theca cells

7) after development primary follicles develop in secondary follicles whereas secondary follicles develop into tertiary follicles.
