What is difference between epicotyl and plumule

What is difference between epicotyl and plumule

As you know that the embryonic axis consists of three parts: the parts:- the plumule, radicle and hypocotyl, the portion of the embryo between the cotyledons attachment point and the radicle is known as the hypocotyl means below the cotyledons, the part of the embryonic axis that projects above the cotyledons is known as the epicotyl. The plumule is composed of the epicotyl, young leaves and the shoot apical meristem.

What is epicotyl?

Definition of epicotyl:- the region of seedling stem above the stalks of the seed or cotyledonary node of an embryo plant, is called epicotyl, it grows in seed showing hypogeal germination.

What is example of epicotyl?

For example:- in monocot plants, the first shoot that emerge from the seed is the epicotyl.

What is functions of epicotyl?

Function of epicotyl:- 1) epicotyl develos into the leaves of the plant, 2) It is important for beginning stages of a plant’s life, and 3) It grows rapidly showing hypogeal germination.

What is plumule?

Definition of plumule:- The part of a seed embryo that develops into the shoot bearing the leaf of plant is called plumule. For example-sunflower seed containing small conical structure plumule.

What is functions of plumule?

Function of plumule:– 1) it produces food by photosynthesis process, 2) Plumule forms embryonic shoot, and 3) It grows showing epigeal germination.

How do you compare between epicotyl and plumule? when you compare between epicotyl and plumule is that, 1) Epicotyl give rise to the stem of the plant while plumule give rise to shoot, 2) epicotyl is the part of seedling that lies above the point of attachment of cotyledons while plumule is the tip of epicotyl, and 3) Epicotyl grows rapidly showing hypogeal germination, and extends above the soil surface while the growth of plumule does not occur until the cotyledons have grown above ground.

How do you distinguish epicotyl from plumule? you can distinguish from epicotyl from plumule:- 1) Epicotyl is the part of the seedling that lies above the cotyledons while plumule is the tip of epicotyl and give rise to the first true leaves of a plant, 2) epicotyl is located in between cotyledons and the plumule while plumule is the at the tip of the epicotyl, and 3) epicoty give rise to stem of the plant while plumule give rise to shoot of the plant.

How does epicotyl differ plumule?, epicotyl differ from plumule in the following points:- 1) epicotyl is the region of a seedling stem above the stalks of the seed leave of an embryo plant while plumule is the tip of epicotyl, 2) epicotyl grows rapidly showing hypogeal germination while in epigeal germination, plumule grows above the ground together with cotyledons, and 3) epicotyl give rise to stem of plant while plumule give rise to shoot.

What is the difference between epicotyl and plumule?

This question is very important for class 8th,9th,10th,11th and 12th students who are preparing for competitive and annual board examination.

Regarding this,“what is difference between epicotyl and plumule?, the main difference between epicotyl and plumule are the following:- 1) epicotyl is the part of the seedling that lies above the point of attachment of cotyledons while plumule is the tip of epicotyl, 2) epicoty is located in between cotyledons and the plumule while when the cotyledons have grown above the ground, the growth of plumule take place, and 3) epicoty give rise to stem of the plant while plumule give rise to shoot of the plant.

List the 5 differences / comparison /distinguish /epicotyl vs plumule/ differentiate between epicotyl and plumule are as follows:-

1) Epicotyl is the part of the seedling that lies above the cotyledons while plumule is the tip of epicotyl and give rise to the first true leaves of a plant.

2) epicotyl is located in between cotyledons and plumule while plumule is located at the tip of the epicotyl.

3) epicotyl give rise to the stem of the plant while plumule give rise to shoot.

4) Epicotyl terminate from the plumule while plumule is the tip of the epicotyl.

5) Epicotyl is responsible for breaking the surface of the soil in hypogeal germination while in epigeal germination, plumule grows above the ground together with the cotyledons.

Important features and characteristics of epicotyl:-

1. An epicotyl is important for beginning stages of a plant’s life.

2. It is the region of a seedling stem above the stalks of the seed leaves of an embryo.

3. It grows rapidly, showing hypogeal germination, and extends the stem above the soil surface.

4. In plant physiology, the epicotyl is the embryonic shoot above the cotyledons.

5. Lengthening of the epicotyl is controlled by the phytochrome photo receptors.

Important features and characteristics of plumule:-

1. The plumule is the part of a seed embryo that develops into the shoot bearing the first true leaves of a plant.

2. Growth of the plumule does not occur until the cotyledons have grown above ground.

3. The seeds develop by the plumule growing up through the soil with the cotyledons remaining below the surface, this is known as hypogeal germination.

4. In most for example the sunflower the plumule is a small conical structure without any leaf structure.

5. The plumule includes the coleoptile ,four leaf primordia and dome shaped shoot apex .

Conclusions:-
epicotyl is one of the important structures of a plant during early stage of plant life, plumule is the tip of the epicotyl and gives first leaves of the shoot.
