There are seven major categories. The most inclusive category is kingdom. The major categories in the descending order are phylum, class, order, family, genus and species. The botanists use division in place of phylum as category in the classification of plant Kingdom.
Species:-species occupies a key position in classification . It is a lowest taxonomic category.

Genus:-a genus is a group species a like in a broad feature of their organisation but different in detail. The genus has a position of special importance in classification.
