Introduction:
Barr body is known as sex chromatin , X- chromatin and drumsticks, Barr body is partial inactivation and development of facultative heterochromatin is one of the 2 X chromosome in Interphase nuclei.It is observable after staining with orcein.Barr body occurs in 20-50 percentage cells of oral mucosa , 10 per centage in neutrophils leucocytes ,85% in nervous tissue ,96% in amniotic fluid and chorionic epithelium of female.It appears as drumsticks in leucocytes.
Barr body is found in contact with nuclear envelope in oral mucosa , any where in nucleus of nerve cells and as drumsticks or small rod at one side of nucleus in neutrophils.Number of barr bodies is one less than the total X – chromosome.
