What is epicotyl:- epicotyl is the part of seedling of stem of the embryonal axis which exist above the cotyledonary node in a dicot embryo is known as epicotyl which start to develop from cotyledonary node and terminate at plumule or exist between cotyledonary node and plumule and responsible for hypogeal seed germination.
What is hypocotyl:– hypocotyl is the part of embryonic axis which exists between the cotyledonary node and radical in Dicot embryo is known as hypocotyl which start to develop from radicals and terminate at cotyledonary node and responsible for epigeal seed germination.
In Dicot seed embryo there is various characteristics features, presence of two cotyledon which is attached at a point known as cotyledonary node on embryonal axis. Below embryonal axis in Dicot seed there is presence of Hypocotyl and radical which are responsible for development of root system in plant life.

Epicotyl functions:- An epicotyl is important for the beginning stages of a plant’s life, it is the region of a seedling stem above the stalks of the seed leaves of an embryo plant and it grows rapidly, showing hypogeal germination, and extends the stem above the soil surface.

Hypocotyl is important for emergence of the radicle, the hypocotyl emerges and lifts the growing tip (usually including the seed coat) above the ground, bearing the embryonic leaves (called cotyledons), and the plumule that gives rise to the first true leaves.
