◆ types of pollutants

◆ introduction:- in this topics me know about
What are different types of pollutants and their definition. We know that pollution refer to any undesirable change in the physical chemical or biological characteristics of our environment like air water and soil that may or will adversely affects humans or other species of our biosphere directly or indirectly.

definition of pollutants

air pollutant is a substance like dust smoke Sulphur Dioxide that on release into the environment that adverse effect on human interest is known as pollutant

What are different types of pollutants and their definition

1) according to physical features of different types of pollutants it is categorised into solid pollutant liquid pollutant and gaseous pollutants

A) solid pollutant:- the type of pollutant is found in solid state are known as solid pollutant .metals, plastics ,wood leaves, human watage and animal wastage are solid pollutants according to their physical state

B) liquid pollutant:- the type of pollutant which are found in liquid state are known as liquid pollutant .Oil,petroleum products like gasoline diesel kerosene chemical and acid and base are liquid pollutant according to their physical States

C) gaseous pollutant:- the type of pollutant which are found in gaseous form are known as gaseous pollutant. Hydrogen sulphide H2S carbon monoxide CO carbon dioxide CO2 nitrous oxide NO2 and Sulphur Dioxide SO2 are gaseous pollutants.

2) according to their nature pollutants is categorised into three category physical pollutants ,chemical pollutants and biological pollutants

A) physical pollutants:– colour ,order, test temperature and suspended solid material found in our environment that are physical pollutants

B) chemical pollutants:– different types of chemicals like pesticides herbicide insecticide that are used in agriculture field and chlorinated solvent that are used in dry cleaning are chemical pollutants

C) biological pollutants:- different types of insects releasing different odour and smell, pollen grains bacteria and virus are found in our environment that adversely affects the human interest are biological pollutants

3) according to degradation of pollutants it is categorised into two category biodegradable pollutants and non biodegradable pollutants

A) biodegradable pollutants:– the pollutants which are capable of being removed or degraded by biological or microbial action and recycles in our environment are known as biodegradable pollutants. Domestic sewage, livestock wastage material, Municipal waste material are biodegradable pollutants

B) Non Biodegradable pollutants :- the type of pollutants which are not degraded or very slowly degraded by microorganism and not recycle by nature are known as non biodegradable pollutant. Glass, plastic ,phenolics ,aluminium cans ,radioactive substance, pesticides polyethylene bags ,Hg salts, heavy metals DDT and BHC are non biodegradable pollutant

4) form of their occurrence in nature pollutants is divided into two categories primary pollutants and secondary pollutants

A) primary pollutants :– the type of pollutants which are present in same form in nature in which these are added by human beings afternoon as primary pollutants. SPM, CO, hydrocarbon, SO2 and CO2 DDT and other pesticides fertilizers weedicides are primary pollutants.

B) secondary pollutants:- the type of pollutants which occurs in difference form and formed by chemical reaction between the primary pollutants in the presence of Sunlight are known as secondary pollutants. HNO3, H2SO4,PAN, OZone are example of secondary pollutants

5) on the basis of their existence in nature pollutants are divided into two categories quantitative pollutants and qualitative pollutants

A) quantitative pollutants :- these are naturally present in nature and also added by humans beings . become pollutants and when their concentration reaches beyond the threshold value in the environment like CO2 and NO2

B) qualitative pollutants:- these types of pollutants are not present in nature but are added by Nature only due to human activities for example pesticides fungicides and herbicides

6) on the basis of their origin pollutant is two types natural pollutant and anthropogenic pollutant

A) natural pollutant:- these type of pollution caused by nature itself like volcanic eruption, dust form ,pollen grains and fire in the forest

B) anthropogenic pollutant:– this type of pollutants added in our nature by human activity only for example wastage of industries and power plant
