Difference between continuous and discontinuous variation

Difference between continuous and discontinuous variation, hi guys in this article you know about what is continuous variation, what is discontinuous variation and what is main difference between continuous and discontinuous variation.

All living beings exhibit variation and in practically every character and in almost all directions. the differences shown by the individual of species and also by the offspring of the same parents are referred to as variation. All organised change themselves in order to adapt themselves to the changing environment otherwise they fail to survive.

How many types of variation? Two types, As per degree of differences the variations are following two types:- 1) continuous variation and 2) discontinuous variation.

What is continuous variation? Continuous variation are small and indistinct when compared to normal. it is found in both Plus and minus side of normal type variation and they are also known as fluctuating variation. such variation are unstable and none inheritable.

What is discontinuous variation?discontinuous variation are large and represent the conspicuous difference of the progeny from parents. they are referred as mutation or a sport or saltation. mutation appear suddenly and are stable and inheritable. there is no intermediate stage between parents and the individual undergoing mutation. As result no average or mean from which divergence of mutant can be seen.

What is difference between continuous and discontinuous variation? Continuous variation are a small indistinct differences from the average conditions, they are already present in population, it is also known as fluctuating variations, unstable and non -inheritable and are very common and found in all organisms and most of their organs. However discontinuous variation are large conspicuous difference from the parents, they are new variation, it is known as mutation, usually the stable and inheritable and they appear suddenly and few cases only.

Difference between continuous and discontinuous variation

Now briefly explain the continuous and discontinuous variation in brief to the point:-

Continuous variation:-
1) they refer to a small indistinct differences from the average conditions

2) they are already present in population

3) continuous variation are also known as fluctuating variation

4) they are usually an unstable and none inheritable

5) continuous variation are due to chance segregation of gene during gamete formation, crossing over or chance of combination during fertilization

6) they can be represented by a smooth curve

7) continuous variation are very common and found in all organisms and in most of their organ

Discontinuous variation:-
1) they refer to large, conspicuous difference from the parents

2) they are new variations though similar variations might have occur previously

3) discontinuous variation are also called as mutation or sports or saltation

4) discontinuous variation are usually a stable and inheritable

5) these variations are produced by change in genes or genome

6) A curve is not produced

7) they appear suddenly and in few cases only.
